Moving-truck parking in LA: start with the right city.

A building reservation and permission to use street space solve different parts of moving-day access.

Identify who controls the loading space

The Los Angeles area includes separate cities with their own parking processes. Begin with the exact street address and proposed loading position. A mailing address or a neighborhood name alone may not tell you which authority controls the curb.

If the space is on private property, ask the owner or manager who can authorize truck access. If it is on the street, check the responsible city’s current instructions. Do not assume a resident parking permit reserves a place for a moving vehicle.

Use the local process

West Hollywood publishes a dedicated moving-permit process. Culver City asks applicants to verify that the property and parking space are within its jurisdiction before requesting space for a moving truck. Pasadena provides parking services and moving-vehicle information through its transportation department.

Read the current requirements for the address, date, and vehicle. Fees, advance notice, dimensions, and sign-posting procedures can change. This guide points you to the relevant offices rather than quoting a single rule for every LA move.

Have the practical details ready

Ask the moving company about the planned vehicle size and discuss where loading is feasible. Note gates, steps, narrow roads, and any distance between the truck and entrance. Keep photos of the curb and building access with your moving information.

A permit or reservation does not remove other restrictions automatically. Review the approved conditions and posted signs. Tell the movers about any change to the loading position before arrival, especially if it creates a longer carrying route.

Coordinate the building at the same time

Ask about service elevators, approved moving hours, loading bays, and COIs. The street arrangement and building window need to overlap. Check both addresses, not only the one you are leaving.

Once those details are known, give the moving company the complete access plan. A little preparation here helps produce a more realistic estimate and reduces time spent resolving access on the day. See our neighborhood pages for links to local planning resources.
