The LA apartment checklist that starts with your building.

The practical details to confirm before you book a truck or start carrying boxes.

Ask both property managers

Request the approved moving hours, loading entrance, elevator procedure, and insurance requirements at both addresses. A service elevator may need a separate reservation. Ask whether it can be used exclusively or will be shared, and who unlocks it on the day.

Send any certificate-of-insurance wording and deadline to the moving company. Do not wait until arrival to discover that the building will not admit the crew without paperwork. Confirm that keys and access fobs will be available throughout the moving window.

Walk the furniture route

Measure large furniture and the narrowest parts of the route. Look at doorways, elevator openings, hallway turns, stair landings, and steps outside the building. Include the distance from the truck’s likely parking position.

Take photographs that show how the path connects. A close-up of a sofa does not show the corner it must turn. Share both the item and the route so the movers can discuss disassembly or another practical plan.

Pack for the rooms you are entering

Label boxes by the room they belong in at the new address. Close them securely and avoid mixing heavy objects with delicate ones. Put keys, documents, medicine, valuables, and chargers in a bag that travels with you.

Mark anything that is staying in the old apartment. Separate cleaning supplies and the items you need for a final walkthrough. If packing is unfinished, tell the crew beforehand rather than assuming the remaining work fits the original moving estimate.

Set up delivery before the truck arrives

Decide where beds, sofas, and larger cabinets will go. A quick floor plan or simple room labels reduce repeated handling. Make sure the loading area is available and someone can direct the crew at the destination.

At the end, check cupboards, closets, parking storage, and any shared storage area before leaving the old building. Review the new home with the crew and identify any concern while it can be discussed directly. Use our apartment-moving page to prepare your quote details.
